MASS 130 - INTRODUCTION AND HISTORTY OF MASS MEDIA


This course introduces students to the history and the present stale of mass communication as social and cultural activity and mass media as an industry. The structure, economics and cultural impact of various traditional and emergent mass media are explored. Students will gain a basic understanding of how the print, broadcast, electronic and photographic media function as well as their history and present challenges. In addition, students will he introduced to public relations and advertising as media industries. The course explores practical considerations in choosing and establishing a career in the media.
